DRIVERS
CLUB SUCCESSFULLY BATTLE
ORE TO SHORE SANDSTORM

The Drivers Club Headed
North to Marquette, MI on August 12th to compete in the 7th annual Ore
To Shore Mountain Bike Epic.
Nine members in all took part with one thousand other racers in the Soft
Rock 28 mile cross country race from Negaunee to Marquette. The race
features racers from 17 states and Canada
Since the inception of the
Drivers Club and subsequent membership drive last winter August 12th had
been a target date for many DC cyclists. The first chance to test
their legs at major mountain bike epic. Of the nine competing four
had completed this race in the past and had described the course as
"downhill all the way and fairly easy." This description helped
convince five new members to apply for the race, but they soon found out
those members might not had been completely honest. Upon finishing
the first DC single rider Jim Strouf greeted Rumme and Chris Hannes at
the finish line by saying "You guys lied to me"

As
it turned out the course was very challenging but the weekend in the U.P.
was an overwhelming success. Many personal goals were achieved, a
championship was won, a new bike was destroyed and new friends were
made. With the success of the race DC President has set an even higher
goal for next year.
"I think we are capable of bringing twenty riders here next year. We may
need to bring some tents, but I think we can do it."
