Josh Martin Costs Rumme and Riley a shot at Tour De France

Martin has been accused of having contact with Spanish Doctor embroiled in doping scandal

Drivers Club President Brian Rummelhart and Drivers Club Road Specialist Dave Riley had been mentioned in rumors circulating Strasbourg, France as possible replacements for Ivan Basso from Team CSC and Jan Ulrich from T-Mobile. This was until DC swimmer Josh Martin was drawn into the doping scandal, stemming from the bust made by the Spanish Civil Guard implicating 50 of the worlds top riders. The Tour de France favorites have been implicated in the same scandal and have been withdrawn from the Tour.

Both DC members turned a few heads while posting strong performances at the YMCA triathlon earlier this month.  A professional cyclist scout and development coordinator who wishes to remain anonymous  was seen surreptitiously scouting the two DC cyclists as the investigation was underway in Spain.  “I’ve always been a huge Drivers Club fan.  When the word got out in May that several top riders would be withdrawn for the tour I was contacted by several teams looking for quality riders.  My first call was to Dan Allemand.  He has been stocking his stable full of quality athletes and I thought that it was time for these athletes to go big time.  But now with young Martin’s name being thrown around in the investigation they will have to sit this one out.

Dan Allemand reports the basis of the Martin involvement is the yet unconfirmed reports of contact with same doctor involved in a ring supplying banned drugs to world class athletes like Martin.  "The evidence is weak, unconfirmed, and circumstantial at best.  The only thing we have heard is the name J. Martin.  It might not be him.  One thing for sure is that Josh has cost my athletes possibly their last shot.  At their advanced age I'm not sure how long I can keep them riding at this level.  Why couldn't his parents have named him Matt like his big brother"

Stacy, a long time Martin Fan (stalker), and timer present at his last two events said all the signs were there, but fans and teammates simply chose to ignore them.  "If you look at his physique at Bong and Parkside it's obvious, he was huge. Fans just wanted him to beat  Hannes  and have some team other than DC#1 win a triathlon so bad that they turned a blind eye to it.  I mean really how else could a little cutie like Josh beat Hannes.  He had to be doping."

DC#1 runner Jim Strouf understood why Josh, if the rumors are true, would resort to such measures.  "There was a tremendous amount of pressure on him.  His teammate was Dave Riley, a Captain.  He might be on his shift someday.  All of those tile floors out at seven.  That's a lot grout to scrub."

DC member and elite tri-athlete Carl Carlson was less sympathetic.  "Don't feel sorry for Josh.  Even if he didn't do it and it was some other J. Martin, the fact we have a J. Martin on our team could taint any future championships myself or the other team members have.  I hereby move we hold an advisory committee emergency meeting to revoke his status as the MVM.  What's Donny Martin been doing?  Maybe he could be named MVM temporarily until we sort this thing out.  And let us not forget the real victims here, Riley and Rumme.  They already had their bags packed and a butt load of trades lined up."

The only comment from the Martin camp has been  a terse remark from long time companion, Angie something or another (AKA "Martins girlfriend")

"Get your own man Stacy"

Advisory Committee Co-chair Heather Tobin has taken the matter under advisement but wouldn't comment further.
