Thanks 'West Isetts'
neighborhood
With the 'Tour de Cure' just around the corner, I
hit the streets. I was warmly received by my
neighbors, who generously contributed to the overall
fundraising efforts of the Drivers Club. Currently
team donations stand at $760 (official ending figures
$1025), a wonderful amount and a
testament to the people we've reached out to, on behalf
of this charity ride. Training has been slowed due
to the less than favorable weather, but all registered
riders should shine brightly on Sunday. Check main
story at left for pictures and complete coverage of
this historic 1st fundraiser ride for the Drivers Club.
Thank you's go out to all the sponsors that reached down
deep to help send the 5 club members up to Grafton H.S.
with a fire in their bellies and a sense of pride in
what you've helped us accomplish. |

BATWINSKI REPAYS
WEIDNER
Retired for 30 years now,
Kenosha Fire Department member, Felix Batwinski finally pays
back 98 year veteran member, Jeff Weidner. "I'd
forgotten all about that trade I'd made with Wide Guy." Batwinski states. "I really thought I was on a Kelly
day. You see, I had the chiefs permission to leave town
that day, so I went fishing up in Racine with King and Knubbs. After I
thought about it for some 30 years, I remembered... I
never did get that day off, so 'Rizzo' (as I called him)
banked the day for me. I thought to myself, after all
that Weed-a-mier. had taught me (like dipping my beard in
water and stuffing it in my mouth like a filter when
going into a fire), I need to pay him back. He would do
it for me." So finding out that Weidner had been shipped
to station #2 for the day, Batwinski packed his gear and
went to #2 to repay his debt. Taking a break from
working in his son's bait & tackle shop, Felix cruised
through his shift stating, "It was like I had never
left, except for those bothersome enclosed cabs!"

J.J. Dares
All D.C. Members To Take The 20
Pound Challenge.
Drivers Club
Member Jeff Johnson decided to start his bike
training at 40 pounds less than most. That's
right, J.J. set a goal to challenge
himself, so he went out with only 20 pounds of air in
his tires for his first ride with the group.
"Anyone who rides with 60 lbs of air
in their tires is just a sissy." J.J.
declared. "And those roadies, with
their 120+ lbs of pressure......don't even get me started on them." When J.J. eventually settled down, he was asked how he came up with this
unique training regimen. "I thought
everybody was already doing this. All
I ever hear with this group is how they're training for the big Flat Tire
Fest in Hayward WI, so I just figured that
this was the way to train for it." When J.J.
learned that the bicycle event was
actually called the Fat Tire Fest, he changed his comment to.."oh, ....never
mind buddy."
What'cha gonna
do when the J.J. comes lookin' for you?!?!
