Drivers club member Jim Strouf (second from left) did what no one thought could be done. Many called him insane when they heard his plan. Yet it was true, he intended to ring the bell off and on the whole 6 hours. And if that wasn't enough, he was also only going to take about an hour break to go and watch a basketball game indoors where it was warm. He managed to complete his goal to the surprise of most everyone. Many people that were giving money would ask how long he had been at his bell-ringing, did he train for the event, when was his start/finish time, and was he crazy for thinking to do this. Media liaison, Henderson Darby, simply answered "Yes, yes he is crazy", and left it at that. Not to be outdone, T.T. Dan Allemand mentioned the he (Dan Allemand) did ride for about 5 min. on a bike and racked up 2.1 miles in the near 7 hours that he was there. Darby interjected " Oh right, there was that too."
